Upon the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory (NPCFSL), JICA Nepal Office handed over DNA extraction kits to NPCFSL today during a brief handover ceremony.
The DNA kits were provided as part of JICA's emergency assistance response to the recent floods that severely affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and surrounding areas. This support is expected to strengthen DNA extraction capacity, expedite forensic examinations, and enhance DNA-based identification efforts for missing and deceased persons. The investigator kits supplied have the capacity to process up to 480 samples. These kits will play a crucial role in supporting victim identification efforts.
Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, H.E. Mr. MAEDA Toru, handed over DNA kits to the Hon'ble Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Mahabir Pun, during a ceremony held at the Nepal Police Academy, Maharajgunj on Thursday. On the occasion, a Letter of Delivery and Acceptance was exchanged between Chief Representative of the JICA Nepal Office, Mr. MATSUZAKI Mizuki, and the Hon'ble Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Mahabir Pun.
JICA remains committed to standing alongside the people of Nepal during this challenging time and will continue to support affected communities in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.
