Like many of Iraq's early leaders, al-Hashimi served as a military officer during the Ottoman control of the country. He made his political debut under the government of his predecessor, Jafar al-Askari, and replaced him as prime minister shortly after, in August 1924. Al-Hashimi served for ten months before he was replaced, in turn by Abdul Muhsin al-Sa'dun. Over the next ten years he filled a variety of governmental positions finally returning to the office of prime minister in March 1935. On 30 October 1936, Hashimi became the first Iraqi prime minister to be deposed in a coup, which was led by General Bakr Sidqi and a coalition of ethnic minorities. Unlike al-Askari, who was then his minister of defense, al-Hashimi survived the coup and made his way to Beirut, Lebanon, where he died three months later. His older brother and close ally, Taha al-Hashimi, served as Prime Minister of Iraq in 1941.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"1882","date":"1882"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Baghdad","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1530"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"1937","date":"1937"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Damascus","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3766"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Ottoman Empire","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q12560"},{"text":"Iraq","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q796"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"politician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q82955"},{"text":"military personnel","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q47064"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P106"}},{"key":"party","label":"Political party","values":[{"text":"Party of National Brotherhood","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7141097"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P102"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"Ottoman Military College","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7109936"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P69"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Prime Minister of Iraq (17 March 1935 – 30 October 1936)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1476165","start":"1935-03-17","end":"1936-10-30"},{"text":"Minister of Finance (20 March 1933 – 9 November 1933)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28104676","start":"1933-03-20","end":"1933-11-09"},{"text":"Minister of Finance (19 September 1929 – 23 March 1930)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28104676","start":"1929-09-19","end":"1930-03-23"},{"text":"Minister of Finance (21 November 1926 – 11 January 1928)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28104676","start":"1926-11-21","end":"1928-01-11"},{"text":"Prime Minister of Iraq (2 August 1924 – 26 June 1925)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1476165","start":"1924-08-02","end":"1925-06-26"},{"text":"Minister of Defense (2 August 1924 – 2 June 1925)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q22690703","start":"1924-08-02","end":"1925-06-02"},{"text":"Minister of Works and Transportation (16 November 1922 – 22 November 1923)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q57270337","start":"1922-11-16","end":"1923-11-22"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasin_al-Hashimi","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2462315"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Yasin al-Hashimi born?","a":"Yasin al-Hashimi was born on 1882 in Baghdad."},{"q":"What positions has Yasin al-Hashimi held?","a":"Positions held by Yasin al-Hashimi include: Prime Minister of Iraq (1935–1936);
