He served as the 15th Prime Minister of Jordan for three separate terms, 1962–63, 1965–67 and 1970 until his assassination in 1971.","summary_more":["Tal was born in Arapgir, Ottoman Empire to prominent Jordanian poet Mustafa Wahbi Tal and a Kurdish mother. He received his elementary education in Jordan, later continuing his education at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He then joined the British Army in Mandatory Palestine after being trained in a British-run military academy, and joined the irregular Arab Liberation Army to fight against Israel during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. His first tenure as prime minister in 1962 was short-lived, he resigned in 1963 over widespread criticism of his perceived pro-Western views. He was appointed prime minister again in 1965, which saw an improved climate of economic activity, but resigned just before the onset of the Six Day War in 1967. He was appointed again as prime minister in 1970 during Black September, the conflict which saw Palestine Liberation Organization fighters (fedayeen) expelled from Jordan. Earning the ire of PLO leaders for his role in the conflict, he was assassinated by the Black September Organization outside a Cairo hotel hosting an Arab League conference.","Tal was reportedly loyal to King Hussein and popular with Jordanians for his success in expelling the fedayeen. Meanwhile, he was widely denounced by Arabs who had supported the fedayeen. His assassins were found innocent and released on low bail…"],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"19 January 1919","date":"1919-01-19"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Arapgir","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q626165"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"28 November 1971","date":"1971-11-28"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Cairo","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q85"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Jordan","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q810"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"diplomat","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q193391"},{"text":"politician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q82955"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P106"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"American University of Beirut","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q469482"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P69"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Prime Minister of Jordan (28 October 1970 – 28 November 1971)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7243300","start":"1970-10-28","end":"1971-11-28"},{"text":"Prime Minister of Jordan (14 February 1965 – 4 March 1967)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7243300","start":"1965-02-14","end":"1967-03-04"},{"text":"Prime Minister of Jordan (28 January 1962 – 27 March 1963)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7243300","start":"1962-01-28","end":"1963-03-27"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasfi_Tal","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Wasfi Tal born?","a":"Wasfi Tal was born on 19 January 1919 in Arapgir."},{"q":"What positions has Wasfi Tal held?","a":"Positions held by Wasfi Tal include: Prime Minister of Jordan (1970–1971); Prime Minister of Jordan (1965–1967); Prime Minister of Jordan (1962–1963)."},{"q":"Where did Wasfi Tal study?","a":"Wasfi Tal was educated at American University of Beirut."}],"related":[{"name":"Bisher Khasawneh","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/bisher-khasawneh"},{"name":"Marouf al-Bakhit","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/marouf-al-bakhit"},{"name":"Omar Razzaz","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/omar-razzaz"},{"name":"Abdullah Ensour","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/abdullah-ensour"},{"name":"Fayez Tarawneh","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/fayez-tarawneh"},{"name":"Awn Al-Khasawneh","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/awn-al-khasawneh"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/wasfi-tal-d3195f6ceb.jpg","width":195,"height":272,"license":"Public domain","credit":"Unknown author Unknown author","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wasfi_Al-Tal_cropped.png"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Wasfi Tal","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasfi_Tal","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q1033917","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1033917","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Wasfi Al-Tal cropped.png by Unknown author Unknown author (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wasfi_Al-Tal_cropped.png","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Wasfi Tal, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
