She was relatively unknown until 1993, when the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that she had a past intimate relationship with the then-Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos. The scandal grew when within days after the revelation, the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission ruled against the owners of the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a dispute involving one-third of the stock ownership of the newspaper. It was widely reported that the adverse ruling came about due to presidential displeasure over the report, although no concrete proof of such ever emerged.","summary_more":["President Fidel V. Ramos never publicly acknowledged a past relationship with Ms. Arenas, although neither did he emphatically deny the report. The scandal, though widely reported at that time, had no visible impact on the Ramos presidency, and quickly passed. For her part, Ms. Arenas attempted to parlay her unexpected fame into electoral victory, running for the Philippine Senate in 1995 and for the House of Representatives for the 1st district of Makati in 1998, both of which were unsuccessful.","Ms. Arenas is also known for her considerable philanthropic efforts and support for the arts. She famously convinced the legendary Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti to perform in Manila for the first time.","Arenas' daughter, Rachel, was the incumbent representative of Pangasinan's 3rd district. She was set to run unopposed in the 2013 elections but gave way to her mother.","She is served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines from 2018 to 2022."],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"8 August 1938","date":"1938-08-08"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Malasiqui","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q41985"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P19"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Philippines","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q928"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"socialite","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q512314"},{"text":"politician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q82955"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P106"}},{"key":"party","label":"Political party","values":[{"text":"Nationalist People's Coalition","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1798571"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P102"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"University of Santo Tomas","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1401524"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P69"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"member of the House of Representatives (30 June 2013 – 30 June 2022)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18002923","start":"2013-06-30","end":"2022-06-30"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Marie_Arenas","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Rose Marie Arenas born?","a":"Rose Marie Arenas was born on 8 August 1938 in Malasiqui."},{"q":"What positions has Rose Marie Arenas held?","a":"Positions held by Rose Marie Arenas include: member of the House of Representatives (2013–2022)."},{"q":"Where did Rose Marie Arenas study?","a":"Rose Marie Arenas was educated at University of Santo Tomas."}],"related":[{"name":"Mikee Romero","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/mikee-romero"},{"name":"Imelda Marcos","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/imelda-marcos"},{"name":"Feliciano Belmonte Jr.","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/feliciano-belmonte-jr"},{"name":"Henry Ong","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/henry-ong"},{"name":"Mark Go","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/mark-go"},{"name":"Edgar Mary Sarmiento","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/edgar-mary-sarmiento"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/rose-marie-arenas-d45a9388c4.jpg","width":419,"height":548,"license":"Public domain","credit":"House of Representatives of the Philippines","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rose_Marie_Arenas.jpeg"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Rose Marie Arenas","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Marie_Arenas","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q7368268","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7368268","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Rose Marie Arenas.jpeg by House of Representatives of the Philippines (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rose_Marie_Arenas.jpeg","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Rose Marie Arenas, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
