In 1035, he rose to prominence in Calatrava la Vieja by claiming to be the disappeared Caliph Hisham II and convincing the local people to rebel against their overlord Ismail al-Zahir of the Taifa of Toledo. Though the revolt did not last long, it garnered the attention of another warlord, Abu al-Qasim of Seville, who took Khalaf under his protection and officially recognized him as Hisham II. With Abu al-Qasim's support, Khalaf's caliphate was widely recognized across al-Andalus, even though he was quickly denounced as a fraud by officials from Cordoba as well as scholars. Khalaf acted as a figurehead for the regimes of Abu al-Qasim and his son Abbad II al-Mu'tadid, with his \"reign\" lasting until his death in 1044. However, his death was not announced by al-Mu'tadid until 1060.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"1044","date":"1044"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141144592#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Ishbiliya","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q116158888"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141144592#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Caliphate of Córdoba","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q171740"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141144592#P27"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"caliph of Córdoba (1035–1044)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15057711","start":"1035","end":"1044"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141144592#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudo-Hisham","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141144592"],"faq":[{"q":"What positions has Pseudo-Hisham held?","a":"Positions held by Pseudo-Hisham include: caliph of Córdoba (1035–1044)."}],"related":[{"name":"Abd al-Rahman III","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/abd-al-rahman-iii"},{"name":"Hisham II of Córdoba","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/hisham-ii-of-cordoba"},{"name":"Al-Hakam II","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/al-hakam-ii"},{"name":"Al-Qasim al-Ma'mun","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/al-qasim-al-ma-mun"},{"name":"Abd al-Rahman IV","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/abd-al-rahman-iv"},{"name":"Abd al-Rahman V","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/abd-al-rahman-v"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":null,"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Pseudo-Hisham","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudo-Hisham","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q141144592","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q141144592","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Pseudo-Hisham, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
