A dove is said to have descended on his head to mark him as the Holy Spirit's unexpected choice to become the next pope. He was succeeded by Cornelius.","summary_more":["Most of his papacy was characterized by amicable relations with the imperial government, and the schism between the Roman congregations of Pontian and Hippolytus was ended. He divided Rome into diaconates and appointed secretaries to collect the records of the martyrs. He sent out seven \"apostles to the Gauls\" as missionaries, but probably did not baptize Emperor Philip the Arab as is alleged. He died a martyr at the beginning of the Decian persecution and is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church."],"facts":[{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Rome","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"20 January 250","date":"0250-01-20"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Rome","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159#P20"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"Catholic priest","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q250867"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159#P106"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Pope (10 January 236 – 20 January 250)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19546","start":"0236-01-10","end":"0250-01-20"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Fabian","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159"],"faq":[{"q":"What positions has Pope Fabian held?","a":"Positions held by Pope Fabian include: Pope (0236–0250)."}],"related":[{"name":"Pope Telesphorus","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-telesphorus"},{"name":"Pope Gregory XIII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-gregory-xiii"},{"name":"Pope Clement VII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-clement-vii"},{"name":"Pope Pius I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-pius-i"},{"name":"Pope Boniface I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-boniface-i"},{"name":"Pope Agapetus I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-agapetus-i"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/pope-fabian-e506a988a5.jpg","width":500,"height":728,"license":"Public domain","credit":"Giovanni di Paolo","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Saint_Fabian1.jpg"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Pope Fabian","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Fabian","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q131159","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131159","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Saint Fabian1.jpg by Giovanni di Paolo (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Saint_Fabian1.jpg","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Pope Fabian, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
