His pontificate oversaw the transition from Valerian's persecutions to the toleration issued by Gallienus in 260. During this period, he reorganized the Roman church, assigning presbyters to individual parishes.","summary_more":["Dionysius participated in early conciliar disputes with wide ecclesial effect. The Synods of Antioch (264–268), which condemned Paul of Samosata, addressed their synodal letter jointly to Dionysius and Maximus of Alexandria, marking the earliest known conciliar decree of its kind. In the same decade, he convened a Roman synod in response to Egyptian Christians of the Libyan Pentapolis who challenged Dionysius of Alexandria's erroneous anti-Sabellian formulations.","His only extant work is the post-synodal letter issued by Rome. In it, he defends the divine monarchia by rejecting both the Western problem of Sabellianism and the Alexandrian tendency toward hierarchical subordination, while explicitly affirming that the Son of God was not a created \"work\" (poiēma). Fragments preserved in Athanasius's De Decretis (c. 350–355) attest to Dionysius' formidable pre-Nicene affirmation of the Son's eternal generation. Scholars regard his synodal theology as highly advanced, firmly establishing early Trinitarianism and \"as if nipping Arius' errors in the bud.\""],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"200","date":"0200"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Roman Empire","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2277"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"26 December 268","date":"0268-12-26"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Rome","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Ancient Rome","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1747689"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"Catholic priest","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q250867"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P106"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Pope (22 July 259 – 26 December 268)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19546","start":"0259-07-22","end":"0268-12-26"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Dionysius","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Pope Dionysius born?","a":"Pope Dionysius was born on 200 in Roman Empire."},{"q":"What positions has Pope Dionysius held?","a":"Positions held by Pope Dionysius include: Pope (0259–0268)."}],"related":[{"name":"Pope Telesphorus","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-telesphorus"},{"name":"Pope Gregory XIII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-gregory-xiii"},{"name":"Pope Clement VII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-clement-vii"},{"name":"Pope Pius I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-pius-i"},{"name":"Pope Boniface I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-boniface-i"},{"name":"Pope Agapetus I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-agapetus-i"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/pope-dionysius-f71143c7c0.jpg","width":284,"height":702,"license":"Public domain","credit":"Unknown author Unknown author","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pope_Dionysius.jpg"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Pope Dionysius","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Dionysius","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q131162","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131162","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Pope Dionysius.jpg by Unknown author Unknown author (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Pope_Dionysius.jpg","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Pope Dionysius, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
