In 1592, he was elected Pope and took the name of Clement. During his papacy, he effected the reconciliation of Henry IV of France to the Catholic faith and was instrumental in setting up an alliance of Christian nations to oppose the Ottoman Empire in the so-called Long War. He also successfully adjudicated in a bitter dispute between the Dominicans and the Jesuits on the issue of efficacious grace and free will. In 1600, he presided over a jubilee, which brought many pilgrimages to Rome. He presided over the trial and execution of Giordano Bruno and implemented strict measures against Jewish residents of the Papal States. According to some accounts, he may have been the first pope to drink coffee, and his approval thereof may have led to its popularisation.","Clement VIII died at the age of 69 in 1605, and his remains now rest in the Roman church of Santa Maria Maggiore."],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"24 February 1536","date":"1536-02-24"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Fano","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q13142"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"3 March 1605","date":"1605-03-03"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Rome","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Papal States","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170174"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"diplomat","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q193391"},{"text":"Catholic priest","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q250867","start":"1580"},{"text":"jurist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q185351"},{"text":"legatus","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q212624"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P106"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"University of Padua","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q193510"},{"text":"University of Bologna","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131262"},{"text":"University of Perugia","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q748085"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P69"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Pope (30 January 1592 – 3 March 1605)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19546","start":"1592-01-30","end":"1605-03-03"},{"text":"cardinal (since 18 December 1585)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q45722","start":"1585-12-18"},{"text":"ambassador","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q121998"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Clement_VIII","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170395"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Pope Clement VIII born?","a":"Pope Clement VIII was born on 24 February 1536 in Fano."},{"q":"What positions has Pope Clement VIII held?","a":"Positions held by Pope Clement VIII include: Pope (1592–1605);
