Orsini's lack of political expertise led him to increasingly rely on an unscrupulous secretary (Cardinal Niccolò Coscia) whose financial abuses ruined the papal treasury, causing great damage to the Church in Rome.","In the process towards sainthood, his cause for canonization opened in 1755, but it was closed shortly afterwards. It was reopened on 21 February 1931, but it was closed once again in 1940. It was opened once more on 17 January 2004, with the official process commencing in 2012 and concluding later in 2017. He now has the posthumous title of Servant of God."],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"2 February 1649","date":"1649-02-02"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Gravina in Puglia","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q51829"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"21 February 1730","date":"1730-02-21"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Rome","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P20"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"Catholic priest","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q250867","start":"1671-02-24"},{"text":"transitional deacon","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7834465","start":"1671-02-22"},{"text":"friar","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q548320"},{"text":"Catholic bishop","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q611644"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P106"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"University of Bologna","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131262"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P69"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Pope (29 May 1724 – 23 February 1730)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19546","start":"1724-05-29","end":"1730-02-23"},{"text":"Roman Catholic Archbishop of Benevento (since 18 March 1686)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q105839662","start":"1686-03-18"},{"text":"Roman Catholic Bishop of Cesena (since 22 January 1680)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q125904351","start":"1680-01-22"},{"text":"Catholic archbishop (since 3 February 1675)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q48629921","start":"1675-02-03"},{"text":"Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manfredonia (since 28 January 1675)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q111739303","start":"1675-01-28"},{"text":"cardinal (since 22 February 1672)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q45722","start":"1672-02-22"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Benedict_XIII","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Pope Benedict XIII born?","a":"Pope Benedict XIII was born on 2 February 1649 in Gravina in Puglia."},{"q":"What positions has Pope Benedict XIII held?","a":"Positions held by Pope Benedict XIII include: Pope (1724–1730); Roman Catholic Archbishop of Benevento (since 18 March 1686); Roman Catholic Bishop of Cesena (since 22 January 1680); Catholic archbishop (since 3 February 1675); Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manfredonia (since 28 January 1675)."},{"q":"Where did Pope Benedict XIII study?","a":"Pope Benedict XIII was educated at University of Bologna."}],"related":[{"name":"Pope Telesphorus","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-telesphorus"},{"name":"Pope Gregory XIII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-gregory-xiii"},{"name":"Pope Clement VII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-clement-vii"},{"name":"Pope Pius I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-pius-i"},{"name":"Pope Boniface I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-boniface-i"},{"name":"Pope Agapetus I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-agapetus-i"},{"name":"Pope Pius VIII","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-pius-viii"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/pope-benedict-xiii-2c3858c21a.jpg","width":500,"height":626,"license":"Public domain","credit":"Unidentified painter","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Benedetto_XIII.jpg"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Pope Benedict XIII","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Benedict_XIII","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q155971","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q155971","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Benedetto XIII.jpg by Unidentified painter (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Benedetto_XIII.jpg","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Pope Benedict XIII, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
