In the first quarter of the 20th century, he played a leading role in both his party and in the young Weimar Republic. During the German Revolution of 1918–1919 that broke out after Germany's defeat in World War I, Scheidemann proclaimed the German Republic from a balcony of the Reichstag building. In 1919, he was elected Reich Minister President by the National Assembly meeting in Weimar to write a constitution for the republic. He resigned the office the same year due to a lack of unanimity in the cabinet on whether or not to accept the terms of the Treaty of Versailles.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"26 July 1865","date":"1865-07-26"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Kassel","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2865"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"29 November 1939","date":"1939-11-29"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Copenhagen","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1748"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"German Reich","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1206012"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"politician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q82955"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P106"}},{"key":"party","label":"Political party","values":[{"text":"Social Democratic Party of Germany","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q49768"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P102"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Reich Chancellor in the Weimar Republic (13 February 1919 – 20 June 1919)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q29034484","start":"1919-02-13","end":"1919-06-20"},{"text":"Chancellor of Germany (13 February 1919 – 20 June 1919)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q56022","start":"1919-02-13","end":"1919-06-20"},{"text":"member of the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q17850767"},{"text":"member of the Reichstag of the German Empire","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q17854096"},{"text":"mayor","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q30185"},{"text":"minister","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83307"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philipp_Scheidemann","https://ne.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%AB%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B2%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA_%E0%A4%B6%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%87%E0%A4%A1%E0%A4%AE%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%A8","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q70581"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Philipp Scheidemann born?","a":"Philipp Scheidemann was born on 26 July 1865 in Kassel."},{"q":"What positions has Philipp Scheidemann held?","a":"Positions held by Philipp Scheidemann include: Reich Chancellor in the Weimar Republic (1919–1919);
