One of the most prolific Romanian-language writers, he is remembered mostly for his historical and adventure novels, as well as for his nature writing. An author whose career spanned five decades, Sadoveanu was an early associate of the traditionalist magazine Sămănătorul, before becoming known as a Realist writer and an adherent to the Poporanist current represented by Viața Românească journal. His books, critically acclaimed for their vision of age-old solitude and natural abundance, are generally set in the historical region of Moldavia, building on themes from Romania's medieval and early modern history. Among them are Neamul Șoimăreștilor, Frații Jderi and Zodia Cancerului. With Venea o moară pe Siret..., Baltagul and some other works of fiction, Sadoveanu extends his fresco to contemporary history and adapts his style to the psychological novel, Naturalism and Social realism.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"5 November 1880","date":"1880-11-05"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Pașcani","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q736305"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"19 October 1961","date":"1961-10-19"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Bucharest","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19660"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Romania","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q218"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"linguist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14467526"},{"text":"poet","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q49757"},{"text":"writer","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q36180"},{"text":"journalist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1930187"},{"text":"biographer","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q864380"},{"text":"children's writer","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4853732"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P106"}},{"key":"party","label":"Political party","values":[{"text":"Romanian Communist Party (1944–1961)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q256121","start":"1944","end":"1961"},{"text":"National Liberal Party-Brătianu","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6974094"},{"text":"People's Party","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7165679"},{"text":"National Renaissance Front","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q303668"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P102"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"Chairperson of the Presidium of the Great National Assembly (7 January 1958 – 11 January 1958)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3409172","start":"1958-01-07","end":"1958-01-11"},{"text":"head of state of Romania (7 January 1958 – 11 January 1958)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q116730140","start":"1958-01-07","end":"1958-01-11"},{"text":"head of state of Romania (30 December 1947 – 13 April 1948)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q116730140","start":"1947-12-30","end":"1948-04-13"},{"text":"President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania (5 December 1946 – 24 February 1948)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7241307","start":"1946-12-05","end":"1948-02-24"},{"text":"President of the Senate of Romania (18 June 1931 – 10 June 1932)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7241368","start":"1931-06-18","end":"1932-06-10"},{"text":"member of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q17556530"},{"text":"member of the Senate of Romania","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q19938957"},{"text":"Member of the Great National Assembly of Romania","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q64859409"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P39"}},{"key":"awards","label":"Awards","values":[{"text":"Lenin Peace Prize","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q308907"},{"text":"honorary doctor of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q89675977"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518#P166"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mihail_Sadoveanu","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q526518"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Mihail Sadoveanu born?","a":"Mihail Sadoveanu was born on 5 November 1880 in Pașcani."},{"q":"What positions has Mihail Sadoveanu held?","a":"Positions held by Mihail Sadoveanu include: Chairperson of the Presidium of the Great National Assembly (1958–1958);
