Son of Sultan Bayezid I and his concubine Devlet Hatun, he fought with his brothers over control of the Ottoman realm in the Ottoman Interregnum (1402–1413). Starting from the province of Rûm he managed to bring first Anatolia and then the European territories (Rumelia) under his control, reuniting the Ottoman state by 1413, and ruling it until his death in 1421. Called \"The Restorer\", he reestablished central authority in Anatolia, and he expanded the Ottoman presence in Europe through the conquest of Dobruja in 1419. Venice destroyed his fleet off Gallipoli in 1416 when the Ottomans lost a naval war.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"1386","date":"1386"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Bursa","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q40738"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"26 May 1421","date":"1421-05-26"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Edirne","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q43387"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P20"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"monarch","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q116"},{"text":"sultan","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q43292"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P106"}},{"key":"spouse","label":"Spouse","values":[{"text":"Emine Hatun","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4436960"},{"text":"Kumru Hatun","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q118958569"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P26"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"sultan of the Ottoman Empire (5 July 1413 – 4 June 1421)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15315411","start":"1413-07-05","end":"1421-06-04"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmed_I","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Mehmed I born?","a":"Mehmed I was born on 1386 in Bursa."},{"q":"What positions has Mehmed I held?","a":"Positions held by Mehmed I include: sultan of the Ottoman Empire (1413–1421)."}],"related":[{"name":"Suleiman the Magnificent","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/suleiman-the-magnificent"},{"name":"Mehmed II","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/mehmed-ii"},{"name":"Bayezid I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/bayezid-i"},{"name":"Murad II","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/murad-ii"},{"name":"Ahmed I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/ahmed-i"},{"name":"Murad I","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/murad-i"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/mehmed-i-7b1ca8529e.jpg","width":500,"height":886,"license":"Public domain","credit":"16th century artist","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mehmed_I._Semailname_(Millet_Library,_Ali_Em%C3%AEr%C3%AE_Collection,_History,_MS_no._1216).jpg"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Mehmed I","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmed_I","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q168769","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q168769","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Mehmed I.
