A seminal figure in the history of music, his personal style was a key driver of the transition from Classical to Romantic music. He expanded instrumental forms such as the symphony, the piano sonata, and the string quartet. Beethoven is widely revered as one of the greatest composers of all time, and his compositions are among the most performed in the world.","summary_more":["Born in Bonn, Beethoven was a musical prodigy. He was initially taught intensively by his father, Johann van Beethoven, and later by Christian Gottlob Neefe. He found relief from a dysfunctional home life with the family of Helene von Breuning, whose children he loved, befriended, and taught piano. At age 21, he moved to Vienna, which became his base, and studied composition with Joseph Haydn. Beethoven gained a reputation as a virtuoso pianist, and was soon patronized by Karl Alois, Prince Lichnowsky for compositions, which resulted in his three Piano Trios, Op. 1, the earliest works to which he accorded an opus number, in 1795. His Pathétique Sonata was composed in 1798. Around this time, Beethoven began experiencing symptoms of hearing loss.","His career is divided into three periods. In the first, he composed in the classical style of Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Beethoven's First Symphony premiered in 1800, and his first set of string quartets was published in 1801. The Moonlight Sonata, dedicated to his pupil Julie Guicciardi, is one of his most popular works. In the middle period (1802–1812), he developed a distinctive style. His Third (Eroica) and Fifth Symphonies premiered in 1805 and 1808, respectively. The former was unprecedented in scale and scope. His opera, Fidelio, premiered in 1805, and was later revised. His Violin Concerto appeared in 1806. His Razumovsky quartets were published in 1808.…"],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"16 December 1770","date":"1770-12-16"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Bonn","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q586"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"26 March 1827","date":"1827-03-26"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Vienna","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1741"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Electorate of Cologne","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7904317","end":"1794"},{"text":"Austrian Empire","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131964","start":"1822"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"composer","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q36834"},{"text":"pianist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q486748"},{"text":"conductor","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q158852"},{"text":"music educator","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16145150"},{"text":"organist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q765778"},{"text":"virtuoso","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q214970"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P106"}},{"key":"website","label":"Official website","values":[{"text":"beethoven.de","url":"https://beethoven.de"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P856"}},{"key":"awards","label":"Awards","values":[{"text":"Bröckemännche Award","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q61016303","date":"2020"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P166"}},{"key":"youtube","label":"YouTube","values":[{"text":"UCnsAooIr-Dsr8zJOCSadQcA","url":"https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnsAooIr-Dsr8zJOCSadQcA"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255#P2397"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_van_Beethoven","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255","https://beethoven.de","https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnsAooIr-Dsr8zJOCSadQcA"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Ludwig van Beethoven born?","a":"Ludwig van Beethoven was born on 16 December 1770 in Bonn."}],"related":[{"name":"Leonardo da Vinci","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/leonardo-da-vinci"},{"name":"Michelangelo","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/michelangelo"},{"name":"Vincent van Gogh","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/vincent-van-gogh"},{"name":"Frida Kahlo","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/frida-kahlo"},{"name":"William Shakespeare","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/william-shakespeare"},{"name":"Rabindranath Tagore","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/rabindranath-tagore"},{"name":"Leo Tolstoy","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/leo-tolstoy"},{"name":"Maya Angelou","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/maya-angelou"},{"name":"Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/wolfgang-amadeus-mozart"},{"name":"Gabriel García Márquez","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/gabriel-garcia-marquez"},{"name":"Hayao Miyazaki","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/hayao-miyazaki"},{"name":"Satyajit Ray","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/satyajit-ray"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/ludwig-van-beethoven-be00a81657.jpg","width":500,"height":622,"license":"Public domain","credit":"Joseph Karl Stieler","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Joseph_Karl_Stieler%27s_Beethoven_mit_dem_Manuskript_der_Missa_solemnis.jpg"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Ludwig van Beethoven","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_van_Beethoven","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q255","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q255","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Joseph Karl Stieler's Beethoven mit dem Manuskript der Missa solemnis.jpg by Joseph Karl Stieler (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Joseph_Karl_Stieler%27s_Beethoven_mit_dem_Manuskript_der_Missa_solemnis.jpg","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Ludwig van Beethoven, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
