In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick co-authored an academic paper on DNA entitled, \"Molecular Structure of Nucleic Acids: A Structure for Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid\". Published in the scientific journal Nature, the paper proposed the existence of the double helix structure of the DNA molecule, having built on research by Rosalind Franklin and Raymond Gosling. In 1962, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins \"for their discoveries concerning the molecular structure of nucleic acids and its significance for information transfer in living material\".","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"6 April 1928","date":"1928-04-06"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Chicago","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1297"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"6 November 2025","date":"2025-11-06"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"East Northport","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3459309"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"United States","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q30"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"biologist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q864503"},{"text":"geneticist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3126128"},{"text":"zoologist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q350979"},{"text":"biochemist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2919046"},{"text":"molecular biologist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15839206"},{"text":"academic","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3400985"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P106"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"Indiana University Bloomington","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1079140","start":"1948","end":"1950"},{"text":"University of Chicago","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q131252","start":"1943","end":"1947"},{"text":"South Shore High School","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7568443"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83333#P69"}},{"key":"awards","label":"Awards","values":[{"text":"Copley Medal","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28003","date":"1993"},{"text":"Presidential Medal of Freedom","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q17144","date":"1977"},{"text":"Lomonosov Gold Medal","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1340199","date":"1994"},{"text":"Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q999734","date":"1960"},{"text":"Canada Gairdner International Award","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1031994","date":"2002"},{"text":"Honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q104783495","date":"2002"},{"text":"Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q80061","date":"1962"},{"text":"Guggenheim Fellowship","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1316544","date":"1965"},{"text":"Philadelphia Liberty Medal","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7182737","date":"2000"},{"text":"National Medal of Science","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q737051","date":"1997"},{"text":"John J.
