In physics, Huygens made seminal contributions to optics and mechanics, while as an astronomer he studied the rings of Saturn and discovered its largest moon, Titan. As an engineer and inventor, he improved the design of telescopes and invented the pendulum clock, the most accurate timekeeper for almost 300 years. A talented mathematician and physicist, Huygens authored the first modern treatise where a physical problem was idealized using mathematical parameters, while his work on light contains the first mathematical and mechanistic explanation of an unobservable physical phenomenon.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"14 April 1629","date":"1629-04-14"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"The Hague","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q36600"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"8 July 1695","date":"1695-07-08"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"The Hague","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q36600"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Dutch Republic","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170072"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"astronomer","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q11063"},{"text":"mathematician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q170790"},{"text":"physicist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q169470"},{"text":"musicologist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14915627"},{"text":"inventor","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q205375"},{"text":"music theorist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16031530"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P106"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"Leiden University","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q156598","start":"1645","end":"1647"},{"text":"University of Angers","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1538727","end":"1655"},{"text":"Orange College of Breda","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2312035","start":"1647","end":"1649"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P69"}},{"key":"awards","label":"Awards","values":[{"text":"Fellow of the Royal Society","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15631401"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599#P166"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christiaan_Huygens","https://ne.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%95%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B0%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%9F%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%A8_%E0%A4%B9%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AF%E0%A5%81%E0%A4%9C%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%A8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B8","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39599"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Christiaan Huygens born?","a":"Christiaan Huygens was born on 14 April 1629 in The Hague."},{"q":"Where did Christiaan Huygens study?","a":"Christiaan Huygens was educated at Leiden University, University of Angers, Orange College of Breda."}],"related":[{"name":"Alfred Nobel","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/alfred-nobel"},{"name":"André-Marie Ampère","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/andre-marie-ampere"},{"name":"Antoine de Saint-Exupéry","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/antoine-de-saint-exupery"},{"name":"Archimedes","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/archimedes"},{"name":"James Clerk Maxwell","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/james-clerk-maxwell"},{"name":"James Watt","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/james-watt"},{"name":"Johannes Kepler","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/johannes-kepler"},{"name":"L.
