A member of the Liberal Party, he was the son of assassinated politician Ninoy Aquino and 11th president Corazon Aquino, and a fourth-generation politician as part of the Aquino family of Tarlac.","summary_more":["Aquino served as a member of the House of Representatives and Senate from 1998 to 2010. During his tenure in the lower house, he served as a deputy speaker of the House of Representatives from 2004 to 2006. Shortly after the death of his mother, he announced his candidacy in the 2010 presidential election, which he eventually won. He was sworn into office as the 15th president of the Philippines on June 30, 2010, succeeding Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.","Under Aquino's presidency, the nation's economy grew at the highest rates in decades, and the country was dubbed a \"Rising Tiger\" economy. Known for his confrontational foreign policy, his administration filed an arbitration case, Philippines v. China, before the Permanent Court of Arbitration in an attempt to invalidate China's claims in the South China Sea and assert the Philippines' claims in the area; the court ruled in favor of the Philippines. After leaving office in 2016, Aquino was the subject of legal actions over his role in the Mamasapano clash and for approval of a controversial budget project; he was later acquitted of all charges filed against him regarding the Mamasapano incident."],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"8 February 1960","date":"1960-02-08"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Manila","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1461"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"24 June 2021","date":"2021-06-24"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Quezon City","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1475"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Philippines","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q928"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"politician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q82955"},{"text":"economist","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q188094"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P106"}},{"key":"party","label":"Political party","values":[{"text":"Liberal Party of the Philippines","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1476937"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P102"}},{"key":"education","label":"Education","values":[{"text":"Ateneo de Manila University","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q533235"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P69"}},{"key":"website","label":"Official website","values":[{"text":"president.gov.ph","url":"http://www.president.gov.ph"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P856"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"President of the Philippines (30 June 2010 – 30 June 2016)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1209571","start":"2010-06-30","end":"2016-06-30"},{"text":"Secretary of the Interior and Local Government (30 June 2010 – 9 July 2010)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7444421","start":"2010-06-30","end":"2010-07-09"},{"text":"Member of the Senate of the Philippines (30 June 2007 – 30 June 2010)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18579098","start":"2007-06-30","end":"2010-06-30"},{"text":"Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines (8 November 2004 – 21 February 2006)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5261087","start":"2004-11-08","end":"2006-02-21"},{"text":"member of the House of Representatives (30 June 1998 – 30 June 2007)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18002923","start":"1998-06-30","end":"2007-06-30"},{"text":"president","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1255921"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P39"}},{"key":"awards","label":"Awards","values":[{"text":"Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5361043"},{"text":"Star of the Republic of Indonesia","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2340171"},{"text":"Order pro Merito Melitensi","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q762844"},{"text":"Order of Lakandula","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q690262"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464#P166"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benigno_Aquino_III","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1464","http://www.president.gov.ph"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Benigno Aquino III born?","a":"Benigno Aquino III was born on 8 February 1960 in Manila."},{"q":"What positions has Benigno Aquino III held?","a":"Positions held by Benigno Aquino III include: President of the Philippines (2010–2016); Secretary of the Interior and Local Government (2010–2010); Member of the Senate of the Philippines (2007–2010); Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines (2004–2006); member of the House of Representatives (1998–2007)."},{"q":"Where did Benigno Aquino III study?","a":"Benigno Aquino III was educated at Ateneo de Manila University."}],"related":[{"name":"Gloria Macapagal Arroyo","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/gloria-macapagal-arroyo"},{"name":"Ferdinand Marcos","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/ferdinand-marcos"},{"name":"Carlos P.
