He was the son of Michael Kantakouzenos Şeytanoğlu, a powerful merchant of the Ottoman Empire, executed by Murad III in 1578. Forced to honor his father's outstanding debt, and briefly imprisoned as a galley slave, he rebuilt the fortune through commerce and political intrigues. In the 1590s, he was continuing his father's involvement as kingmaker for both Wallachia and Moldavia, acting as patron for a succession of Hospodars: Stephen the Deaf, Petru Cercel, Aaron the Tyrant and Peter the Lame all benefited from his financing. From 1591, he involved himself directly in the administration of both countries. Integrated within Moldo–Wallachian boyardom, he was Vistier, and then the first-ever Ban of Oltenia to be appointed directly by the Ottomans.","summary_more":[],"facts":[{"key":"born","label":"Born","values":[{"text":"1553","date":"1553"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P569"}},{"key":"birthplace","label":"Place of birth","values":[{"text":"Istanbul","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q406"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P19"}},{"key":"died","label":"Died","values":[{"text":"1601","date":"1601"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P570"}},{"key":"deathplace","label":"Place of death","values":[{"text":"Principality of Moldavia","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q10957559"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P20"}},{"key":"citizenship","label":"Citizenship","values":[{"text":"Ottoman Empire","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q12560"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P27"}},{"key":"occupation","label":"Occupation","values":[{"text":"banker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q806798"},{"text":"diplomat","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q193391"},{"text":"politician","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q82955"},{"text":"regent","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q477406"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P106"}},{"key":"positions","label":"Positions held","values":[{"text":"regent","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q477406"}],"source":{"label":"Wikidata","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953#P39"}}],"office":null,"sections":[],"cited":[],"cited_from":null,"videos":[],"last_reviewed":null,"organizations":[],"same_as":["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andronikos_Kantakouzenos_(1553%E2%80%931601)","https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953"],"faq":[{"q":"When was Andronikos Kantakouzenos born?","a":"Andronikos Kantakouzenos was born on 1553 in Istanbul."},{"q":"What positions has Andronikos Kantakouzenos held?","a":"Positions held by Andronikos Kantakouzenos include: regent."}],"related":[{"name":"Gyanendra of Nepal","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/gyanendra-of-nepal"},{"name":"Ferdinand II of Aragon","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/ferdinand-ii-of-aragon"},{"name":"Berengaria of Castile","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/berengaria-of-castile"},{"name":"John II of Aragon","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/john-ii-of-aragon"},{"name":"Pope Adrian VI","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/pope-adrian-vi"},{"name":"Ferdinand I of Aragon","url":"https://diginpl.com/people/ferdinand-i-of-aragon"}],"places_in":[],"nearby":[],"image":{"url":"https://diginpl.com/kb-img/andronikos-kantakouzenos-a173cab6de.jpg","width":500,"height":514,"license":"Public domain","credit":"Wallachian Chancellery","page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Emblem_of_arms_of_Wallachia_under_%C8%98erban_Cantacuzino,_1683.png"},"sources":[{"label":"Wikipedia (English): Andronikos Kantakouzenos","url":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andronikos_Kantakouzenos_(1553%E2%80%931601)","license":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/"},{"label":"Wikidata item Q2846953","url":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2846953","license":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},{"label":"Image: Emblem of arms of Wallachia under Șerban Cantacuzino, 1683.png by Wallachian Chancellery (Public domain)","url":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Emblem_of_arms_of_Wallachia_under_%C8%98erban_Cantacuzino,_1683.png","license":null}],"license":{"text":"CC BY-SA 4.0","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","facts":"https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/"},"attribution":"Text from the Wikipedia article Andronikos Kantakouzenos, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
