Ubhauli (Nepali: उभौली, lit. 'going up') is a festival of the Kirat communities of Sunuwar, Limbu, Yakkha and Rai of Nepal, India and around the world by Kirati people celebrated every year, marking the migration phase upwards towards the hilly regions when the summer season arrives. The migration from the hills to areas at lower altitude is called Udhauli (downwards), which is also an annual festival of these communities. Sakela is a dance performed during the festival. On the Ubhauli festival day, the Kirat people pray to mother nature for healthy crops and protection from natural calamities in that year.
नेपालीमा
उभौली किराँतहरू सुनुवार, राई, लिम्बु र याक्खा जातिको महान चाड हाे । उभौली पर्वको रूपमा रहेको किरातीहरूको यो महत्त्वपूर्ण चाड वसन्त ऋतुमा वालीनाली राम्रो होस् सबैमा सुख शान्ति सूस्वास्थ्य रहोस् र दैविप्रकोप तथा विपक्तिहरू नआउन् भनि पुजा गरिन्छ,यस चाडमा सुनुवार र राईहरू साकेला/सखेवा शिली नाच्छन भने लिम्बु र याख्खाहरू च्याब्रुङ नाच नाच्दै प्रकृतिलाई पुजा गर्दछन । किराँतीहरूको यो पर्व पृथ्वीमा कृषियुग शुरु भएदेखि प्रचलनमा आएको विश्वास गरिन्छ । उभौली चाडमा किरात खम्बु (राई)हरु आफ्नो जातीय पहिरन(भेषभुषा)मा सजिएर साकेला/साकेन्वा/सखेवा सिली नाच्छन् । कालो कोट, दौरा-सुरूवाल, बुकी फूल सिउरिएर, खुकुरी भिरेर नेपाली टोपीमा ठाँटिएर पुरुषहरू साकेला सिलीमा ताल मिलाउदै गोलबन्द भएर नाच्छन् भने महिलाहरू पनि कम्मरमा पटुकी कसेर चौबन्दी चोली र छिटको फरिया अनि पहेंलपुर गरगहनामा सजिएर उनीहरूलाई शिलिको इसारा गर्दै नाच्छन् । हातमा चौरीको पुच्छर, सिल्लिमो, पोमी, लिङ्चिबुङ्को डाला, चमर र सिम्कौली सेउली लिएर नाचिन्छ । स्याउला, ढोल, झ्याम्टा, बिनायो तथा हारी छातीमा झुन्ड्याएर उनीहरू आफूलाई सजाउँछन् । गोलाकार घेरामा रहेर नाचिने साकेला शिली अहिले सबै जातीका युवायुवतीको पनि सहभागिता बढ्दो छ । बिक्रम संबत २०७६ सालमा उभौली पर्व जेष्ठ महिनाको ४ गते परेको थियो ।
