Ghost Festival (भुतमेला, bhoot mela) takes place on the full moon day of the month of Kartik (October/November) in Siraha district of Nepal at the Kamala River. In this festival, shamans are believed to cure illnesses thought to be caused caused by family deities, or evil people in their village by using tantric power.
नेपालीमा
महोत्तरीको सदरमुकाम जलेश्वरदेखि २७ किलोमिटर उत्तर-पश्चिम सोनामाईस्थानमा दशैंमा लाग्ने मेला लाई भूत मेला भनिन्छ। सोनामाईमा भूत धपाउने मेला लाग्न थालेको २०० वर्षभन्दा बढी भएको अनुमान छ। घटस्थापनादेखि शुरु भएर नवमीका दिन समापन हुने मेला दिनभर पूजा र रामरमाइलोसँगै सप्तमी र अष्टमीको रात उत्कर्षमा पुग्छ। भूतप्रेतबाट मुक्त हुन चाहनेहरू रात पारेरै मन्दिर परिसरमा आउँछन्। दिउँसो पूजापाठमा व्यस्त पूजारी रातभर जाग्राम बसेर भूतमेलाको नेतृत्व गर्छन्। भूत हटाउने र सन्तान सुख प्राप्त गर्ने अवसर मानिने सोनामाई मेला भरेपछि मनोकाङ्क्षा पूरा हुने जनविश्वास छ।
History
The festival is a centuries-old tradition celebrated every year on the full moon day of Kartik to control the influence of ghosts and Boksi. The festival occurs at the same time as Dashain. The origin of this festival is not known.
